Yerevan is a small but ancient city that tourists love for its unique flavor, cozy streets saturated with the aroma of fruit trees and freshly brewed coffee, for an amazing combination of traditional and modern cultures, as well as for the hospitality and kindness of residents.

The capital of Armenia is rich in sights and interesting places. However, if you plan a short trip to Yerevan for a few days, then we will tell you about the main attractions of this “pink” city, which are worth visiting first of all.

The Cascade Monument

The Cascade located in the heart of Yerevan resembles a giant staircase, the steps of which are decorated with various modern sculptures created by world-famous sculptors. There is the Cafesjian Center for the Arts inside the Cascade, which presents unique examples of contemporary art. The cascade can rightfully be called one of the most creative places in Yerevan. Outdoor jazz concerts are often held here during the warm season.

But the advantages of Cascade are not limited to this: the panorama that opens from the highest point of the complex is considered a “cherry on a cake”. Climbing to Cascade on foot or the escalator you can see the entire capital from the bird’s-eye view. There is the amusement park “Victory” near the observation deck, which is recommended to visit with children.

Republic Square

Republic Square is one of the major visiting cards of Yerevan. Large-scale concerts, parades and processions, as well as the most important political events of the country take place here. The buildings surrounding the main square of the city are also of state importance: here are the buildings of the Armenian Government and some ministries. The reason why all tourists visit Republic Square is the famous singing fountains, whose waters perform an elegant dance to the music of various styles.

There are many inexpensive places where you can stay while traveling in Armenia in the vicinity of the square. One of the most popular is Umba Hostel, which offers visitors the best conditions of stay despite its rather low prices.

Erebuni Fortress

The centuries-old Erebuni fortress was erected in 782 BC by the Urartian king Argishti I. The date of construction of the fortress was indicated on a stone stele discovered by archaeologists. The capital of modern Armenia originated in this place almost 2800 years ago. The strong walls of the fortified city made of basalt, tuff and clay have survived to this day. There is a museum on the territory of the Erebuni fortress, which displays artifacts discovered during excavations in this area. The attraction is a must-see destination for lovers of antiquity.
